CIO and Lead Portfolio Manager on the firm’s investment strategies. Mr. Janis and Mr. Sotorp, having worked as colleagues at Manulife Asset Management, co-founded Agile in 2024. Collectively, they currently make up the firm’s Board of Directors and Operating Committee. Dan also serves on the Risk Committee and Investment Policy Committee of the firm.
Mr. Janis is responsible for all aspects of the investment function and is lead decision maker on Agile’s investment strategies. He created the company’s range of Global Multi Sector portfolios, leveraging his experience in creating such portfolios in his previous company.
Mr. Janis has held senior investment positions for much of his 35 year career in investment management. Most recently, prior to Agile Investment Management, he worked at John Hancock/Manulife Asset Management (1999-2023) as the Head of Global Multi Sector Fixed Income and Lead Portfolio Manager for the company’s global multi sector fixed income strategies. He created and built the
portfolio strategies and platform over a 24 year period. He was responsible for all aspects of the business, building the portfolio management team which contributed inputs to his portfolio construction, asset allocation and risk decisions. His expertise in duration management and foreign exchange consistently added alpha and lowered risk in the portfolios. He has worked closely with public
institutions and private institutional clients spanning pension funds, mutual fund platforms, asset allocation platforms and broker/dealers throughout the US, Canada and Asia. At its peak, the business exceeded $40 billion in assets under management.
Prior to Manulife, Mr. Janis also held positions as VP and proprietary risk manager at BankBoston in addition to managing the currency forwards desk from 1991-1997 for Morgan Stanley.
